Shelley Capito (R) 93,356 57% Mike Callaghan (D) 69,867 43%
- Outlook: Capito, with her ties to DeLay and the coal companies, is damaged goods. Meanwhile, Callaghan, who is a former federal prosecutor and head of the WV EPA, is a strong candidate. He has also been endorsed by the WV Sheriffs. Callaghan won a close three-way primary over Mark Hunt and Ritchie Robb. In the primary, total Democratic votes exceeded Republican votes by a nearly 2-1 margin.
