United States Government
From dKosopedia
The United States Government is the governmental authority of the United States of America, whose powers are enumerated in the United States Constitution. It is the product of a successful rebellion in the 18th century by British colonists, and its essential structure has remained in place since that time.
The government is classified alternately as a representative democracy and a constitutional republic, although believed by many to be de facto plutocracy. There are two major political parties — the Democrats and Republicans — although there are a number of other, smaller so-called third parties.
The government is divided into three major branches:
- The Executive Branch, which manages the bureaucracy and enforces the laws.
- The Legislative Branch, which passes budgets and formulates laws.
- The Judicial Branch, which interprets laws and passes judgment on their enforcement.
