United States Government

E Pluribus Unum

The United States Government is the governmental authority of the United States of America, whose powers are enumerated in the United States Constitution. It is the product of a successful rebellion in the 18th century by British colonists, and its essential structure has remained in place since that time.

The government is classified alternately as a representative democracy and a constitutional republic, although believed by many to be de facto plutocracy. There are two major political parties — the Democrats and Republicans — although there are a number of other, smaller so-called third parties.
