Rep. Brian Bilbray, born in Coronado, California on January 28, 1951, is a California Republican serving the 50th Congressional District. Bilbray was a former San Diego County Supervisor and former mayor of Imperial Beach. Bilbray won the 2006 special election and 2006 general election for the Fiftieth District, see California U.S. House election, 2006.
In his prior stint in Congress, Bilbray consistently sponsored xenophobic legislation; for example, during the 106th Congress he -
- Sponsored a bill to "amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship at birth to children born in the United States of parents who are not citizens or permanent resident aliens" (H.R.73)
- Co-sponsored a bill to declare English the official language of the U.S. Government (H.R.50, H.R.123)
When Bilbray had last left Congress, he had worked as a lobbyist for a casino-owning Indian tribe. He was also a friend of corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff. He went on an all-expenses paid junket to the U.S. Territory of the Marianas islands, where sweatshop workers produce "Made in USA" clothing.
