Vito Fossella is the Republican Congressman representing the 13th Congressional District of New York, comprising all of Staten Island and portions of southwestern Brooklyn. Fossella was elected to the New York City Council in 1994. When Susan Molinari decided to step down, he successfully entered Congress in 1997.
Fossella has one of the most conservative voting records of any of the remaining northeastern Republicans.
He has been acused of using campaign cash for a family ski vacation. [1]
An Italian-American and native Staten Islander, Vito earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1993, he earned his Juris Doctor from the Fordham University School of Law. In 1990, he married Mary Patricia Rowan, and they have three children (he also has a fourth).
