Rodney Alexander was elected as a Democrat in a tight 2002 election to one of the most Republican districts in Louisiana. There was speculation that he would switch parties, but he declined to do so in March 2004, and no formidable competition came his way. Then he shocked and disgusted many by waiting only a few HOURS before the August filing deadline to switch his registration from Democrat to Republican. He stabbed his party and his financial supporters in the back in the crassest way possible, and had better hope that Democrats never regain a majority in the House.
