National Guard

The National Guard is a collection of state military units which serve as a reserve to the United States Military. It is separated into two components, the Army National Guard and Air National Guard.

While National Guard units are usually under the command of the Governor of their state, they can be federalized by presidential order.

It is managed by the National Guard Bureau, a joint command of the Army and Air Force whose chief sits on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
