Carole Keeton Strayhorn

Former Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn was an independent candidate in the 2006 Texas gubernatorial contest. She ran against incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry, Democratic candidate Chris Bell, Independent candidate Kinky Friedman and Libertarian James Werner. (See Texas gubernatorial election, 2006.) She was a Republican, who changed to an Independent for the gubernatorial campaign. She has also served on the Texas Railroad Commission.

She is the mother of Scott McClellan.
