The New Republic

The New Republic was founded in 1914 to serve as a journal of liberal-progressive opinion. It has dramatically altered its editorial positions many times, reflecting the many new owners and editors that have been involved in its publication. For example, it started out supportive of the Soviet Union, but eventually morphed into a fervently anti-communist periodical under more recent owners.

Today, under the ownership of Martin Peretz, it has combined hawkishness and social liberalism. Its detractors claimed it's owned by neoconservatives, as evidenced by its recent support for the Iraq War.
