Michael Chertoff

Michael Chertoff is the Secretary of Homeland Security. When he took office on Feb. 15, 2005, he became the second person to lead the United States Department of Homeland Security.

Chertoff is a former judge, who sat on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Before becoming a judge, he was assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice's criminal division from 2001 to 2003. He served as a U.S. Attorney, and he was a law clerk to Supreme Court justice William Brennan.

Chertoff was counsel to the Congressional Whitewater committee from 1994-1996.
