Maureen Dowd

Maureen Dowd is a columnist for The New York Times. She lives in Washington, DC. She has worked for The NYT since 1983, when she joined the paper as a metropolitan reporter. Dowd was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1999 for her series of columns on the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Dowd was born in Washington, DC on January 14, 1952. She is the youngest of five children in a Irish Roman Catholic family. Her father (who was born in County Clare, had been a member of the Irish Republican Army there) worked as a police officer.
