  • Losing Primary Candidates:
  • Primary Results: Amazingly, Fletcher won his primary outright, and avoided a runoff with Northup. On the Democratic side, Beshear won over Lunsford.
  • Commentary: U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler (D) declined to run. Attorney General Gregory D. Stumbo cannot run, because he has prosecuted Fletcher and that constitutes a conflict of interest. Northup has been endorsed by Senators Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell, as well as incumbent Lt. Gov. Stephen B. Pence. Both Lunsford and Beshear have copied parts of their platforms from other gubernatorial candidates in Iowa and Florida. (Campaign plans of Lunsford, Beshear mirror out-of-state candidates) Miller withdrew just two weeks before the primary, and endorsed Beshear. Beshear won a crushing victory in the general election, despite a round of last minute gay-baiting robocalls from Fletcher's campaign.
