John Yarmuth is a Democratic publisher-turned-Congressman from Kentucky. He ran for Congress from the 3rd District defeating Republican Anne Northup in 2006, see Kentucky U.S. House election, 2006. He began his political career as a Republican, and worked as an aide to former Senator Marlow Cook. In 1985, he change his registration to the Democratic party.

Background

In 1990, Yarmuth founded LEO Newsweekly, a free publication circulated widely in the Louisville area. Yarmuth is also the founder and president of the [ Center for Kentucky Progress], a progressive think tank on Kentucky issues.

He and his wife Catherine have one son, who attends Indiana University.
