Jim Bunning is a Republican Senator from Kentucky. Bunning's behavior has been increasingly erratic, and he publically denied charges of senility during his very close 2004 re-election campaign against Daniel Mongiardo.

Political Career

Bunning served on the Ft. Thomas City Council 1977-1979, and he was a member of the Kentucky State senate 1979-1983. He was elected to the U.S. House from 1986-1998, then he was elected to the United States Senate in 1998 and reelected in 2004.

  • Bunning was one of only two Senators who voted against confirming Robert M. Gates as the Secretary of Defense (because Gates wasn't conservative enough).
  • Bunning was the only member of the Senate to vote against doubling the bounty on Osama Bin Laden. (GOPer Bunning: If You're Serious About Catching Bin Laden, Stay In Iraq, TPM Election Central, July 13, 2007.)
