Jay Inslee (born February 9, 1951, Seattle), a Democrat, was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1992 from Washington's 4th Congressional District. He supported Bill Clinton's policies on gun control and deficit reduction. In the Republican landslide of 1994 he was defeated by Doc Hastings.

After that election, Inslee moved to Western Washington to practice law. President Bill Clinton appointed him to be Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a position he shortly left to again run for Congress in 1998. In 1998, Inslee ran for Congress from the 1st Congressional District against two term incumbant Rick White. Jay Inslee was the first Democrat to run ads stating his opposition to impeachment. He won that election getting 49.77% of the votes in a three way race. He has been reelected to the WA-01 in 2000 (54.6%), 2002 (55.6%), and 2004 (62.3%).

Before his election to the House of Representatives, Jay Inslee served in the Washington State house of representatives. He was also a lawyer. In 1996 he ran for Governor losing a primary to Gary Locke.
