The Georgia supreme court is the highest court, made up of seven justices popularly elected to 6-year terms. The chief justice is elected by the court for the duration of the justice's term of office.

Georgia Supreme Court members:

The second highest court is the court of appeals, consisting of nine judges popularly elected on a nonpartisan basis to 6-year terms.

The principal trial courts are the superior courts, which have 159 judges; they are elected on a nonpartisan ballot for 4-year terms.

Other judicial bodies in Georgia include the state (county) courts, juvenile courts, probate courts, magistrate courts, municipal courts, civil courts, and county recorders' courts.
