Rep. Darrell Issa', born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 1, 1954, serves the 49th Congressional District in California. Issa, a Republican, was first elected to Congress in 2000. Issa was a leader in the successful effort to recall former California Governor Gray Davis in 2003. Issa briefly ran in the resulting governor's race. He withdrew from the race (under pressure from Karl Rove) as it became increasingly clear that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be the next governor.
