Curt Weldon

Curt Weldon (R) is a former Congressman from Pennsylvania's 7th district. He was born in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1947, the youngest of nine children. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from West Chester University in 1969.

First elected to the House in 1986, he was challenged in the 2004 general election by Paul Scoles, who garnered nearly 41% of the vote to Weldon's 58.8%. In 2006 he was defeated by Joseph A. Sestak Jr..

In 2005, He published a book called Countdown to Terror: The Top-Secret Information that Could Prevent the Next Terrorist Attack on America... and How the CIA has Ignored it. In it, he made allegations that Bin Laden had recently spent time in Iran. This was quetioned by the CS Monitor. Link

Vulnerabilities

  • His daughter Karen may have received special treatment in contract award(s). As discussed in this LA Times article (February 20, 2004), Karen Weldon's firm, Solutions North America Inc., received a $240,000 contract "to promote the good works of a wealthy Serbian family" - Karic - "that had been linked to accused war criminal Slobodan Milosevic". The LA Times article notes that at the time of the award, Karen Weldon was 29 years old, with no relevant portfolio. The article further notes that Rep. Weldon has "gone to bat for" his daughter's firm with at least two other clients, with the three contracts adding up to a value of $1 million. Karen Weldon's business partner in Solutions is Charles P. Sexton Jr., 67, the former campaign finance chairman for Rep. Weldon, and current chair of the Springfield (DelCo) GOP.
  • Weldon spoke at the "coronation" of Sun Myung Moon on March 23, 2004. Although he denied involvement at first, pictures showed him speaking at the event, which was held in a Senate office building. Source: Swing State Projecct.
