Craige Thomas was a Republican Senator from Wyoming. Thomas entered the Marine Corps as a private, and was eventually promoted to Captain. He was a Wyoming state representative from 1984-1989. He was elected to the U.S. House in a 1989 special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Richard Cheney, and he was reelected in 1990 and 1992, but he was not a candidate for reelection in 1994. Thomas was elected to the United States Senate in 1994 and reelected in 2000 and 2006. Immediately after his reelection in November, 2006, Thomas announced that he has leukemia, and he has been hospitalized for treatments. He died on June 4, 2007.

Fun Facts!

  • While running in his first Senate campaign, Thomas dropped his claim to have a law degree from his resume. Seems he had gotten it in a correspondence course from the non-accredited LaSalle University in Chicago. (Reference: Roll Call, 9/18/94)
