Overview

The Wall Street Journal is a business oriented newspaper with a national circulation based in New York City and owned by Dow Jones, Inc. The name of the paper refers to Wall Street which is the proverbial home of big business in the United States, and the literal home to New York City's financial district which is the primary economic engine of the city's economy and is home to the largest physical stock exchange in the United States, the New York Stock Exchange, as well as most of its investment banking industry.

The editorial staff of The Wall Street Journal has traditionally been the embodiment of the economically affluent wing of the Republican Party.
