The U.S. Senate Agriculture Subcommittee on Marketing, Inspection, and Product Promotion is one of four subcommittees of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.
The Agriculture committee has delegated jurisdiction to this subcommittee over legislation and federal programs relating to agricultural foreign trade, foreign and domestic agricultural market development, and agricultural product promotion. Oversight responsibilities include international commodity agreements and export controls on agricultural commodities, foreign assistance programs (including Food for Peace), marketing orders, inspection and certification of meat, flowers, fruit, vegetables and livestock.
The current ranking Democrat is Max Baucus (MT), who is expected to take over its chair in 2007 from James Talent, the outgoing chairperson who was defeated in his bid for reelection in the 2006 mid-term elections.
