Dr. Steve Kagen is a physician from Wisconsin. He represents the 8th District in Congress. (See Wisconsin U.S. House election, 2006.) He defeated former Republican State House Speaker John Gard for the open seat vacated by Mark Green.
Kagen embodies the best of Northeastern Wisconsin's traditional values and faith in the future. He is running for Congress to put his record of successful problem-solving to use for the families and businesses of the region.
"I'll go to Washington, get the job done, and then come home," Kagen says. "After all, I'd rather be listening to patients than politicians."
The grandson of legal immigrants, Kagen was born and raised in Appleton, where he and his wife Gayle raised four children. He is one of several generations in his family to serve the 8th Congressional District as a physician and has devoted a quarter-century of service to our communities, healing the wounds of Wisconsin families who have placed their trust in his judgment.
Kagen began his working career as a Teamster, bagging sugar and whey at Foremost Dairy. He later earned an honors degree in Molecular Biology and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He founded the Kagen Allergy Clinics in Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac; serves as an assistant clinical professor of Allergy - Immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin; and is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Allergy - Immunology, and Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology.
Wisconsin doctors have voted Kagen one of the "Best Doctors in America," and CNN trusted him as their Allergy Consultant, especially his groundbreaking work in identifying new causes of asthma, for which he has earned an international reputation.
Kagen was honored in 2005 by the EPA with a 2005 Children’s Environmental Health Recognition Award for his creation of a 5th grade health education program that protects children from environmental risks.
