Steve Gilliard

Steve Gilliard (November 13, 1964 – June 2, 2007) was a freelance journalist and left-wing political blogger who ran the website The News Blog. Steve on Daily Kos
Steve's first comment on Daily Kos was on October 1, 2002, responding to Markos's diary from September 30, NJ Dems have GOP boxed in; the comment thread link is here, and it was signed "sgilliard". He became active in 2003 (he commented every day from January 27 through April 3; on April 3 he became a Daily Kos guest blogger and posted to the front page daily through April 18, 2003, a total of 82 consecutive days). He continued commenting on Daily Kos even after starting his own blog on August 6, 2003.
Posted Comments
He didn't comment much initially, only three more times in October, and not again until the early hours of 2003, but by mid-January he was a regular commenter. The invasion of Iraq was clearly drawing closer, and Steve wrote extensively on the foolishness of this intention on the part of the U.S. government.

Guest Posting
On April 3, 2003, Markos announced that Steve would be one of two guest posters, along with Billmon, while Markos was out of town. Steve's was the day's second post, and he did seven posts in all that first day. He then posted daily for over two weeks, even when Markos was back in town, and during a second out-of-town jaunt when Steve had the posting reins with new guest poster Ron K, Seattle, Billmon having finally opened the Whiskey Bar (his new blog) to customers.
Steve continued guest posting through the end of August, despite having his own new blog open on August 6. In the nine week period before his blog opened he wrote 151 front page posts for Daily Kos, missing only seven days; by contrast, Markos wrote 183 posts and missed thirteen days. He wrote his final front-page posts for Daily Kos on August 28, 2003.
