Spencer Thomas Bachus, III is the United States Representative from the Sixth District of Alabama. The Alabama Republican was first elected to Congress in 1992. A graduate of Auburn University and the University of Alabama Law School, Bacchus is married to Linda Bacchus, has five children and attends a "megachurch" in Hoover, Alabama Hunter Street Baptist Church. That is where the votes are!

The Sixth District lies in the middle of the state and includes Ribb County and parts of Childton, Coosa, St. Clair, Jefferson, Shelby, and Tuscalosa counties. The principal towsn in the district are Alabaster, Clanton, Gardendale, Homewood, Hoover, Hueytown, Leeds, Mountain Brook, Pelham, Pell City, Pleasant Grove, and Tussville.

Bachus is very popular with finance and insurance interests. In the 2005-2006 election cycle his top campaign contributors have included the Mortgage Bankers Assication of America ($10,000), Wachovia Corporation ($8,000), BellSouth Corporation ($7,500), MBNA Corporation ($7,000), Ernst & Young ($6,500), PricewaterhouseCoopers ($6,500), Independent Community Bankers of America ($6,000), AmSouth Bancorp ($5,400), AFLAC Inc. ($5,000) and Bank of America ($5,000). Well done Spencer!

Bachus will be facing Shelby County, Alabama resident and business owner Paul Lambert in the 2010 Republican primary. Lambert is running against Bachus as a response to the TARP vote that Bachus supported, in spite of overwhelming constituent complaints and his support for the USA PATRIOT Act.
