Socialist

From dKosopedia

A socialist is an individaul who favors a large government role in the economy to secure social justice and economic development.

While socialist is often used pejoratively in American political discourse, the most common name for a center-left party in Europe is Democratic Socialist. Typically, Democratic Socialists favor a strong welfare state paid for with fairly high taxes, state owned enterprises in strategic industries, strong unions, and significant government regulation.

Unlike communists, socialists do not reject the notion of wide spread private property ownership, private enterprise and a market based economy. Socialists, instead, favor a "mixed economy" in which both government and the private sector have significant rules.
