Slade Gorton (R) was a U.S. Senator from Washington. He was first elected in 1980, but lost his reelection bid in 1986. He was elected again in 1988, and served until he was defeated in 2000. He was born in Chicago, IL, on January 8, 1928.
Gorton served in the U.S. Army and then Air Force from 1945-1956. He was a member of the Washington State house of representatives from 1959-1969, and was its majority leader from 1967-1969. He was the Washington State attorney general from 1969-1980.
He was a member of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.
