Shintoism

Shinto, which was the established religion of Japan in the 1800s, refers to various forms of religious belief associated primarily with ancestor worship in Japan based on a variety of texts that date from the 700s. It is sometimes characterized as a form of animism, greatly influenced by Buddhism.
