Sarah Ludford

Sarah Ann Ludford, Baroness Ludford is a Liberal Democratic Party member of the House of Lords and the Member of the European Parliament. She has played a leading role in the European Parliament's investigations of the U.S. CIA's illegal prisons and extraordinary renditions. She is also the Co-ordinator of the Kurdish Network in the European Parliament.
Political Biography
Born on March 14, 1951, Ludford is a former councillor in the London Borough of Islington, and married to the current leader of the council, Ludford ran for election to the House of Commons unsuccessfully in the 1992 and 1997 general elections. As the Liberal Democrat candidate for Islington North in 1992 she came in third with 5732 votes or 15.1% of the vote. As the Liberal Democrat candidate for Islington South and Finsbury in 1997 she came in second with 7516 votes or 21.3% of the vote.
Ludford was named a Life Peer in the House of Lords in 1997 and was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 1999, repesenting London. Because of rules change in the European Parliament she will not be entitled to stand for re-election in 2009.
