Background
Rep. Levin was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 6, 1931 [1], he graduated from Central High School. He earned his B.A. at the University of Chicago in 1952, his M.A. in International Relations from Columbia University in 1954 and a law degree from Harvard University in 1957. [2]
Rep. Levin was elected to the Michigan State Senate in 1964, serving on the Education and Labor Committee. He was Michigan Senate Minority Leader from 1969 to 1970. [3]
In 1970 and 1974, Rep. Levin was the Democratic candidate for Governor. After a four year assignment as Assistant Administrator in the Agency for International Development, he was elected to Congress in 1982. [4]
His brother, Carl Levin, serves in the United States Senate.
