Roy Blunt is a fifth term Republican Representative elected from the 7th Congressional District of Missouri, MO-07. He defeated Democratic candidate Jack Truman, the grand-nephew of President Harry Truman, in the 2006 mid-term election. Blunt also defeated Truman in 2004, with a hefty 71% of the vote.
In 2006, he ran for Majority Leader after Tom DeLay resigned from that position, but he was defeated by John Boehner. Blunt is the Minority Whip for the Republican Party.
The 7th Congressional District of Missouri consists of 10 Ozark counties in the southwestern-most corner of the state, a piece of the white Bible Belt more similar to the Mountain South than the Midwest. The largest population centers are placid, non-descript Springfield and country n' western music mecca Branson. (The towns of Lampe and Blueeye are also pretty darn excitin' on a Saturday night!)

Blunt claimed that he would have handled the issue of Mark Foley's e-mails to teenage pages differently if head been aware: "I think I could have given some good advice here, which is, you have to be curious, you have to ask all the questions you can think of...You absolutely can't decide not to look into activities because one individual's parents don't want you to."
