Robber Barons

From dKosopedia

The owners of the unregulated monopolies of the latter part of the 19th Century in finance (Morgan, Chase, Gould, Mellon), steel (Carnegie), railroads (Crocker, Harriman, Hopkins, Stanford, Vanderbilt), oil (Rockefeller), and other industries. The term comes from the medieval practice of feudal lords charging confiscatory and illegal tolls on the Rhine River in Germany.
