Ralph Hall

Ralph Moody Hall is the Republican representative for the Fourth Congressional district of Texas. He used to be a Democrat, until he switched sides in 2004. He was first elected to Congress in 1980.
Between 1950 and 1962, Mr. Hall served as County Judge of Rockwall County, Texas. In 1958-1959, he served as President of the State Judges and Commissioners Association. He served in the Texas Senate from 1962 to 1972, where he served as President Pro Tempore in 1968-1969.
Background
Ralph M. Hall was born in Fate (Rockwall County), Texas, on May 3, 1923, and he served in the Navy during World War II. He went on to become a lawyer and businessman. He and his wife have three grown sons and five grandchildren.
Abramoff Connections
Hall has worked with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff on shady deals in the Northern Marianas Islands (a US dependency). In 1997, he tried to tried to smear a young girl who had been forced into prostitution by saying "She wanted to do nude dancing". (Source:TX-4: Republican Ralph Hall smears child rape victim).
Fun Facts!
- While still (technically) a Democrat, withheld his vote for Rep. Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House at the opening of the 108th Congress. Hall considered Pelosi too liberal, and instead voted "Present."
