Peter Vitousek, born January 24, 1949, Honolulu, Hawaii. Vitousek is at the forefront of research on biological diversity, his research focus is Hawaii. His Stanford Lab is studying nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems as well as the effects of invasions by exotic species.

Named in 2001 by CNN and TIME magazine as one of America's Best in Science and Medicine.

Peter M. Vitousek is Clifford G. Morrison Professor of Population and Resource Studies at Stanford University.
