Peter DeFazio is the Democratic U.S. Representative for the Fourth Congressional District of Oregon OR-04. He exemplifies dedicated public service to his district, state and nation.

Political Career
Defazio was first elected to the U.S. House in the 1986 election cycle and then re-elected in every elction from 1988 to 2006. In the U.S. House he has served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committees, House Resources Committee; Aviation and Surface Transportation Subcommittees; and as the Ranking Democrat on the Water and Power Subcommittee. Before beign elected to the U.S. House, Defazio served as Congressional Aide to Representative Jim Weaver from 1977 to 1982 and a Member of the Lane County Board of Commissioners from 1982 to 1986.
In 1995 DeFazio ran against but lost to Senator Ron Wyden in the Democratic Party Primary. On January 5, 2007 he stated that he would not run for the U.S. Senate in 2008, a decision he explained as follows: "Given the fact I am chairing a very important subcommittee in the House that’s important to Oregon and the nation, and I am serving in the majority, I have no inclination to spend the next two years raising money for a tough Senate race to become a junior member of the Senate and not chair a committee."
DeFazio is also a world class wise ass and a Simpsons fan. [1] [2]

Background
DeFazio was born in Needham, Massachusetts on May 27, 1947. Tufts University, B.A., 1969; University of Oregon, M.A., 1977. Honorable discharge U.S. Air Force Reserve, 1971. He and his wife, Myrnie L. Daut, own a home and live in Springfield.
