Patrick Kennedy is a Democratic U.S. Representative from the 1st District of Rhode Island. He was first elected to Congress in 1994.
He began a battle against his addiction to painkillers in May 2006 when he entered the Mayo Clinic for treatment after a traffic accident in D.C. Although they were noticeably silent about Rush Limbughs drug addiction, conservatives in Rhode Island didn't miss the opportunity to attack Kennedy when he was down. State Republican Party Chairlady Patricia Morgan, stated that Kennedy wasn't capable of fulfilling his duties and called on him to resign or "take a medical leave of absence."
