Niki Tsongas (D) is the U.S. House member for Massachusetts 5th congressional district. She is the widow of former Senator and Congressman Paul Tsongas. She was first elected to congress in a special election on October 16, 2007.

Background
Tsongas was born to Marian Susan Wyman, and Colonel Russell Elmer Sauvage, an engineer in the United States Air Force who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. Tsongas graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1968 and took a job as a social worker for the Department of Welfare. Niki married Paul Tsongas in 1969 and the couple had three daughters. In 2001, she was appointed by Marty Meehan to head a foundation to provide educational funding for the children of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
