New York Yankees

From dKosopedia

The New York Yankees are the greatest team in the history of sport. No other team has so consistently dominated the field over such a long time — with the possible exception of the Harlem Globetrotters. Ever since Babe Ruth joined the team they've been blessed. Aside from a few rough patches in the late 1960s and in nearly the entire decade of the 1980s, the Yankees are almost always pennant contenders and frequently find themselves in the World Series.

The Yankees routinely pay the highest salaries in baseball, and their players also enjoy the lucrative advertising contracts available in their home market. Consequently the Yankees can attract and retain excellent players. (Baseball players also have a strong union representing their interests.)

In 2004, the Yankees lost to their longtime nemeses, the Boston Red Sox, in a stunning come-from-way-behind American League Championship Series. (The Red Sox went on to win the World Series.)
