National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a member of the Intelligence Community. In 1996, the US Congress, the CIA, and the Department of Defense agreed to combine the efforts of the country’s mapping and imagery analysis efforts, creating the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA), which was renamed to the NGA in 2003.

The NGA used spy satellites to take pictures of US territory after Hurricane Katrina.
