Nancy Boyda, born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 2, 1955, serves the 2nd Congressional District of Kansas. Boyda, a Democrat, won the 2006 election by defeating her Republican opponent, Jim Ryun, whom she had also challenged in 2004.

Background

Boyda graduated with honors from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, where she received dual degrees in chemistry and education. She began her career in 1978 working as an analytical chemist and field inspector for the Environmental Protection Agency. Over the next two decades, she also held management positions in several pharmaceutical companies, including Marion Laboratories.

Nancy is married to Steve Boyda, who was raised on a farm in Marshall County, is a former Marshall County attorney, and a Marine Corps veteran. Nancy is the mother of two children and five stepchildren, and a member of Countryside United Methodist Church in Topeka.
