Meteor Blades

Meteor Blades is the pseudonym of journalist and political blogger Timothy Lange. He discovered blogs in December 2002, and created his pseudonym in late January 2003 to comment on Daily Kos. After serving over fourteen months as an official guest blogger on Daily Kos, he continued making front-page posts there, later becoming a Contributing Editor to the site, and then the site's Director of Community in June 2009. He co-founded the group blog The Next Hurrah in February 2005.

Meteor Blades on Daily Kos

Meteor Blades's first comment on Daily Kos, using his pseudonym, was on January 25, 2003, responding to a story by guest blogger Steve Soto, So Much for Dismissing "Old Europe" The comment thread link to that post is here, and his comment was signed MeteorBlades. He added the space to his name later that year.

He also made two prior comments on Daily Kos under his real name, Tim Lange. The first, in the Markos-created Open Thread: waxing philosophical, can be found in the post's comment thread.

Posted Comments

Once posting as Meteor Blades, he commented for four days straight in January, and then for the first seventeen days in February. On November 5 he was back with comments to three posts, and three days later wrote five comments to each of two posts that day. He wrote with increasing frequency in the following months, missing only three days in January 2003.

Guest Posting

On September 19, 2003, Markos announced that he was appointing two New guest posters: Meteor Blades and DHinMI. RonK, Seattle remained a guest blogger, which he'd been since April 11, and stayed on until Daily Kos switched platforms from Movable Type to Scoop a few weeks later (the Movable Type site was closed and archived on October 15).

Meteor Blades continued as a Daily Kos guest blogger through November 30, 2004, writing a total of 341 guest posts for the front page: 16 under Movable Type, and 325 under Scoop in this period.

The next set of guest bloggers took over immediately after that, but Markos noted that front-page "alumni" would still be able to continue posting on weekends as the mood struck them. Meteor Blades didn't post any stories in December 2004, but started again in 2005, and is still writing front page stories at the present time. As of July 7, 2008, he had written another 438 front-page stories, for a total of 779. He has also written 256 diaries.

Meteor Blades's Other Blog Writing

Meteor Blades was a co-founder of the group blog The Next Hurrah, which was founded on February 23, 2005. His fellow 2004 DKos guest bloggers DHinMI and Trapper John were also co-founders, and other writers included another 2004 front pager DemFromCT, along with later DKos front pagers Plutonium Page and Kagro X, and other writers. Meteor Blades posted at The Next Hurrah for two years and two weeks.
