Biography
Mary Bono was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 24, 1961 but moved to Southern California in 1963. Worked her way through the University of Southern California, graduating in 1984. She married singer/comedian turned Republican politician Sonny Bono and moved to Palm Springs soon after that. Bono died in a skiing accident on January 5, 1998.
Ideological Moderate
She is more ideologically moderate than her late husband on a number of issues, and generally respected by both parties. On May 10, 2006, she voted in favor of an amendment before the House Energy and Commerce Committee. that would raise Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards on cars. This proposed baby step toward energy efficiency would require that automobiles manufactured by a manufacturer after model year 2015, achieve not less than 33 miles per gallon. Even this small pathetic measure failed in a vote of 37 to 16.
