A libertarian believes an ideology (libertarianism) that holds to maximizing individual liberty and minimizing the power and scope of the federal government.

The basic Libertarian platform summed up, is that laissez fare ideals should govern the economy, “government protection only against force or fraud” should be the social norm, and “armed neutrality” should be the guiding principle in foreign policy.
