Biography

Jon Corzine is the Governor of New Jersey. Before that he served as a U.S. Senator from New Jersey from 2000-2005.

Jon Corzine left a successful career as co-chairman and CEO of the investment company Goldman Sachs to run for the Senate in 2000. Derided by conservative ideologues as a "liberal", by 2004 polls revealed Corzine was the most popular politician in New Jersey. In 2003, he took a job that few Democrats were interested in -- chairing the DSCC for the 2004 electoral cycle. He surprised everyone by recruiting some of the strongest candidates in many, many years, especially in the South, and if Democrats retain their current numbers or gain seats in the Senate, Jon Corzine will deserve much of the credit.

In 2005, he was elected as Governor of New Jersey. In April 2007, he was critically injured in a car accident.
