John Paul Stevens

From dKosopedia

stevens.jpg

As of May, 2004, one of the U.S. Supreme Court's justices. Considered a moderate. Appointed by Gerald Ford.

(Anecdote) At one time (and maybe still currently, 2004) Justice Stevens favored a ban on flag burning. He may have been influenced by a flag being displayed upside down and having water thrown on it as a part of his nephew's hippie wedding in the late 1960's on the Stevens' extended family Lake Michigan shoreline summer property in S.W. Michigan. Famous Chicago anachist and pacifist Joffre Stewart was persuaded to not perform one of his flag burnings for the event (mainly because of windy conditions) so substituted water instead. -wegerje 21:05, 28 May 2004 (PDT)
