John Gard

From dKosopedia

John Gard (born August 3, 1963 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is currently a Republican member of the Wisconsin State Assembly representing the 89th district since 1987. He also serves as Speaker of the State Assembly. He is married to Cathy Zeuske, a former Wisconsin State Treasurer. They have three children.

John Gard was the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Wisconsin's 8th congressional district. Gard defeated State Rep. Terri McCormick in the September 12th Republican primary, but he lost to Democrat Steve Kagen in the general election.

Gard ran a particularly nasty campaign and has come under fire for lying about his opponent and his positions. [1], [2]. Steve Kagen filed an official report with the FEC, asking the commission to take action and have Gard's misleading ads removed from the public airwaves. [3]

Outlook: This is hotly contested seat. The eighth district has been Republican for all but 2 of the past twenty-odd years and went for Bush in 2004. However, Russ Feingold always does well here, and the numbers look good. Republicans, nationally, are uniting behind John Gard. Cook Report (10/31/06) - rating remains "Toss Up". [4]
