Jim Ramstad

Jim Ramstad was first elected to the 3rd Congressional District of Minnesota in 1990. He is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and chairs itsf its Oversight Subcommittee. He is also a member of the Health Subcommittee. Ramstad also co-chairs the Congressional Law Enforcement Caucus, the Medical Technology Caucus, the Bipartisan Disabilities Caucus and the Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus.

Jim Ramstad was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, the third generation member of a small business family. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota in 1968 (Phi Beta Kappa) and his J.D. (with Honors) from George Washington University in 1973.

Jim Ramstad served his country as a First Lieutenant, U.S. Army Reserve, from 1968-75.

Jim is a former Criminal Justice attorney and adjunct professor of government and Constitutional law. Prior to his election to Congress, he served three terms in the Minnesota Senate, where he was Assistant Minority Leader. He plans to retire at the end of the 2008 session.
