Jim Marshall is the Democratic U.S. Representative representing the 8th Congressional District of Georgia. He was first elected in 2002.
Speaking during a January 8, 2007 panel on "U.S. Policy in Iraq" at the Center for Strategic & International Affairs, Marshall insisted that what was necessary to win in the Iraq was patience. The same claim could be made about any war of counter-insurgency. A better answer would have been to the question of why the U.S. finds itself occupying Iraq in the first place. Marshall also made repeated reference to Robert Wright's 2000 book Non-Zero: The Logic of Human Destiny, a restatement of the idea of "human progress" in which natural selection has the objective of acheiving non-zero sum cultural advances. See Steven Pinker's Critique.
