Jason Altmire (born in Kittanning, Pa., March 7, 1968), is a Democratic Congressman representing the 4th District, see Pennsylvania U.S. House election, 2006. He defeated Republican Melissa Hart in an upset, recapturing a seat held by Democrats before 1994. Rep. Altmire is a member of the moderate, pro-growth New Democrat Coalition.
A healthcare executive, Altmire worked for eight years as a staffer for Congressman Pete Peterson of Florida. (Peterson was a POW during the Vietnam War, and later became the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam.) Altmire has been very active in community activities.
