Quotations
- At a Senate hearing on Abu Ghraib, May 2004:
- "As I watch this outrage, this outrage everyone seems to have about the treatment of these prisoners . . . I'm probably not the only one up at this table that is more outraged by the outrage than we are by the treatment.
- In the same month, talking to The Oklahoman, Inhofe called the Abu Ghraib tortures "unfortunate," but said we had to look at them "on a relative basis":
- "In America, let's don't look at it through our eyes. What we might consider abusive treatment, they might think they've died and gone to heaven," Inhofe said, referring to the prisoners.
- He also said he was upset that the Armed Services Committee wasn't informed about the investigations into the abuse.
- In a January 2005 telephone interview with Bloomberg News about the Clear Skies Act of 2005, Inhofe said that global warming is:
- "the second-largest hoax every played on the American people, after the separation of church and state." And that: "Carbon dioxide certainly will not be part of Clear Skies. It is not a pollutant. Clear Skies deals only with pollutants."
