J. Richard Chema

J. Richard Chema is a former Federal prosecutor from Dayton, Ohio who ran for Congress in the 3rd District of Ohio, but lost to the incumbent, see Ohio U.S. House election, 2006. As a Navy veteran he is officially one of the Fighting Dems.

Background

Chema grew up in East Liverpool, Ohio, the son of a steelworker and department store clerk. He served on active duty in U.S. Navy for 12 years as an officer and continues to serve in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Chema received his undergraduate degree with honors from Georgetown University in 1978 and his law degree with honors from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1981. He also received an advanced degree in Military Law from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Chema moved to Dayton in 1994 where he began work with the United States Attorney’s Office. He was appointed Chief of the Criminal Division for the 48-county Southern District of Ohio in 2001. He and his wife, Susan, who was born at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, live in Oakwood. He has one daughter who graduated in June from Georgetown University and another who will be a freshmen there starting next week.
